A suspected case of food poisoning at a private school near Thane, Maharashtra, has resulted in the hospitalization of 45 children aged 8 to 11. The students, who consumed a mid-day meal on Tuesday, reported symptoms of giddiness, nausea, headache, and abdominal pain after lunch. Initially, 38 children were admitted to a civic hospital in Kalwa, with seven more brought in late Tuesday night.
Dr. Aniruddha Malgaonkar, the hospital’s medical in-charge, confirmed that all the children are stable and responding well to treatment. If their condition remains stable, they are expected to be discharged by Wednesday afternoon. Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Additional Commissioner Sandeep Malvi reassured the public that none of the children are in danger.
The students were served rice and moth bean (matki) curry as part of their mid-day meal. Samples of the food have been collected by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for testing. The incident began when five children reported feeling unwell, and the number gradually increased. Ambulances were called, and the children were rushed to the hospital, where their parents joined them.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely.
