The 6th International Conference on Sustainability Education (ICSE), held on September 19-20, 2024, at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, brought together over 500 global thought leaders, educators, policymakers, and environmentalists. Organized by the Mobius Foundation in partnership with key global organizations, the two-day event focused on the theme “Greening Education for a Sustainable Future”, emphasizing the importance of integrating sustainability into education systems.

The conference highlighted the growing importance of ‘green education’ and ‘green jobs’ in tackling sustainability challenges. Discussions recognized the role of India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023 in promoting sustainable education, marking them as pivotal for future sustainability efforts.

Keynote speakers included Mr. Pradip Burman, Chairman of Mobius Foundation; Dr. Tim Curtis, UNESCO Director; Jadav Payeng, environmentalist; and Dr. Rajendra Singh, Waterman of India. The event featured various sessions addressing environmental education, including “Greening Education for a Sustainable Future” and “Advancing Circular Economy Education”, focusing on practical solutions like green chemistry and resource efficiency.

The conference also emphasized community partnerships and traditional knowledge as key enablers of sustainability education, along with initiatives like Gyan Kanya Shakti, empowering girls in rural areas. ICSE 2024’s alignment with Mission LiFE—introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at COP26—reinforced the commitment to integrating climate-friendly practices into daily life, further embedding sustainability into global education.
