Seventy-six schools in rural areas of Patna district have been closed for three days as the Ganga river’s water level surpassed the danger mark on Wednesday, according to an official notification.

The closure was ordered to ensure the safety of students and teachers. The notification, issued by District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh, stated, “A total of 76 government schools in eight blocks of Patna district will remain closed until September 21, 2024, due to the rising water levels of the Ganga river.”

The decision follows a tragic incident last month when a government school teacher was swept away by strong currents near Patna. According to the district administration, the Ganga is currently flowing above the danger mark at Gandhi Ghat, Hathidah, and Digha Ghat.
