Despite facing severe financial constraints, Madhulatha not only passed the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) but also secured an impressive 824th rank in the Scheduled Tribe category, earning a place at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
The Struggle:
- Background: Madhulatha, daughter of a laborer, grew up in poverty. To support her family, she often grazed goats while preparing for the JEE exam.
- Financial Hardship: The total cost for her B.Tech admission was Rs 2.5 lakh. Although she managed to pay Rs 17,500 to secure her admission, her family struggled to provide the remaining amount due to their financial situation.
Turning Point:
- Financial Assistance: As the deadline for fee payment approached on July 27, Madhulatha’s plight was highlighted by her 12th-grade faculty at Tribal Welfare Junior College. She sought financial assistance of Rs 2,51,831.
- Government Support: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, moved by her situation, intervened to provide financial help. On July 23, he announced that the state government would cover the remaining amount. The Telangana State Scheduled Tribe Cooperative Finance Corporation Limited (TRICOR) was instructed to release Rs 1,51,831 to ensure Madhulatha’s admission.
Future Plans:
- Engineering at IIT Patna: Madhulatha plans to pursue a B.Tech degree in engineering at IIT Patna. Her story is a testament to her resilience and determination to create a better future for herself and her family.
