In a significant move to foster patriotism and honor sacrifices, the NCERT has included a poem on the National War Memorial and a chapter on martyr Abdul Hameed in the Class 6 curriculum starting this academic session. This initiative, a collaboration between the Defence and Education Ministries, aims to instill values of courage, devotion to duty, and a spirit of national service among schoolchildren.

The poem, titled “National War Memorial,” celebrates the spirit of the memorial, which stands as a tribute to soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. The accompanying chapter, “Veer Abdul Hameed,” pays homage to the brave soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice during the India-Pakistan war of 1965. Posthumously awarded the Param Veer Chakra, the nation’s highest gallantry award, Abdul Hameed’s legacy serves as an inspiration for young minds.

Established in 2019, the National War Memorial aims to cultivate high moral values, a sense of national spirit, and belonging among citizens. It stands as a fitting tribute to those who have defended the nation.

As part of an action plan to promote the National War Memorial as an iconic national monument, the Ministry of Defence has worked closely with the Ministry of Education to integrate this important theme into educational materials. This initiative not only honors the past but also encourages future generations to engage in nation-building, ensuring that the spirit of sacrifice and valor continues to inspire young hearts across the country.
