Kerala General Education and Labour Minister V Sivankutty announced that schools in landslide-hit Wayanad, currently serving as relief camps, will resume classes soon, with financial aid provided to affected workers. After meetings with teachers, PTAs, and stakeholders, it was decided to restart classes within 10-20 days, ensuring that all basic facilities in the schools are improved beforehand.

This decision aligns with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s directive to ensure the education of children in affected areas is not disrupted.

Additionally, the Labour Board has pledged financial assistance to workers injured in the landslides and the families of those who died, including migrant workers. Rs. 1 lakh will be provided as the first installment to the families of deceased laborers.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the affected areas, with the death toll from the landslides reaching 226 as of Monday.
