The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has mandated the installation of high-resolution CCTV cameras in all examination halls for the upcoming 2025 Class 10 and 12 board exams. This directive, issued on September 27, aims to enhance security and ensure fairness for the approximately 44 lakh students expected to appear for these exams.
Key Highlights of the Policy:
- Mandatory Installation: Only schools equipped with CCTV cameras in every exam hall will be eligible as examination centers. Schools without permanent cameras will not be considered suitable venues.
- High-Resolution Cameras: The cameras must provide clear visibility of student activities and exam materials. Cameras with pan, tilt, and zoom capabilities are required to ensure dynamic monitoring.
- Footage Storage: Recordings must be securely stored for at least two months after the results are announced. Only authorised personnel will have access to this footage.
Cost and Communication:
CBSE has clarified that the cost of installing the CCTV systems will be the responsibility of the schools, not the board. Schools are instructed to inform students and parents about the new policy, ensuring transparency about the purpose of the surveillance. Methods such as orientation sessions, handbooks, and notices will be used for communication.
In addition, schools are encouraged to gather feedback from students, staff, and examination officials to refine and improve the implementation of this new system.
This move marks a significant step by CBSE to ensure a secure and fair examination process on a large scale.
