Chitkara University, located in Punjab, has collaborated with KONE India, a leading manufacturer of elevators and escalators, to establish the KONE Centre of Excellence for Vertical Transportation. This initiative aims to equip students with specialized skills in vertical transportation, blending academic learning with hands-on industry experience. The Centre, fully equipped with state-of-the-art electrical and mechanical labs, is the first of its kind on a university campus in India.
The collaboration includes a comprehensive Vertical Transportation course, developed jointly by Chitkara University and KONE India. This program will provide students with the technical skills and knowledge required to meet the growing demand for smart, sustainable urban mobility solutions. Additionally, KONE India will offer training sessions for educators to enhance teaching methods and integrate modern technologies into the curriculum.
Dr. Ashok Chitkara, Chancellor of Chitkara University, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing its alignment with the university’s mission to provide top-quality education. Amit Gossain, Managing Director of KONE India & South Asia, highlighted the importance of the centre in preparing students for the future of urban mobility and fostering innovation in vertical transportation.
KONE India also introduced India’s first vertical transportation diploma course in collaboration with Chitkara University, which is now being upgraded to a bachelor’s engineering degree program, responding to the rising demand in urban development.
Chitkara University continues to rank among India’s top educational institutions, with NAAC A+ accreditation and recognition from NIRF.
