Meta Partners with IndiaAI to Enhance Open Source AI Innovation in India

New Delhi, Oct 25 (PTI) – Meta has announced a strategic collaboration with ‘IndiaAI’ at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to promote open-source artificial intelligence (AI) innovation, research and development, and skill enhancement in India. This partnership aims to foster the growth of indigenous AI applications and bolster research capabilities in alignment with India’s AI mission of achieving technological sovereignty.

As part of this collaboration, the Center for Generative AI, named Shrijan, will be established at IIT Jodhpur. Additionally, the initiative will launch the ‘AI for Skilling and Capacity Building’ program in partnership with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The collaboration is set to equip the youth with the necessary skills to excel in the global AI landscape, thereby contributing to India’s ambition of becoming a USD 5 trillion economy. IT Secretary S. Krishnan emphasized the importance of this initiative in securing India’s position as a leader in technological advancement and economic growth. “These initiatives are pivotal in creating a robust ecosystem for groundbreaking research, skill development, and open-source innovation, advancing AI technology while ensuring its responsible and ethical deployment,” Krishnan stated.

This partnership reflects Meta’s commitment to fostering innovation in India while also addressing the demand for skilled professionals in the rapidly evolving AI field.
