Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced plans to revive gurukul-style Sanskrit schools in Uttar Pradesh, emphasizing the importance of Sanskrit as both a scientific and technical language. During a speech at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University in Varanasi, he unveiled a new scholarship scheme that will benefit 69,195 Sanskrit students across the state, distributing a total of ₹586 lakh in scholarships. The CM stressed that promoting Sanskrit aligns with advocating for humanity and highlighted the language’s applications in fields like computer science and artificial intelligence.

Previously, scholarships were available to a limited number of Sanskrit students with stringent age restrictions. Under the new scheme, however, all eligible students can now receive scholarships, with funds directly transferred to their bank accounts. The initiative marks a shift in support for Sanskrit education, which the CM noted had been neglected by past administrations.

The state government’s plan to reintroduce the traditional gurukul education model includes additional support for institutions offering free accommodations and meals for students. The CM expressed his belief that this traditional system could strengthen India’s educational foundation and contribute to the country’s global influence. He also stated that these gurukul-like institutions would have the autonomy to recruit qualified teachers, with the hiring process for Sanskrit educators set to accelerate.

To further advance Sanskrit learning, a ‘Vedic Science Centre’ is being established, which will focus on advanced research in Sanskrit and its application in modern sciences. The government’s support for these institutions reflects a commitment to preserve and promote Sanskrit, enhancing its accessibility and relevance for future generations.
