Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has defended the New Education Policy (NEP), calling it the “Indianisation” of India’s education system. His remarks came in response to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s recent criticism of the policy, where she accused the Centre of pushing centralisation, commercialisation, and communalisation through NEP.
Fadnavis on NEP: A Step Toward Indianisation
Speaking to reporters in Nagpur on March 31, CM Fadnavis said:
“If the education policy introduced by Macaulay to enslave our country is being replaced with an Indianised system, no patriot should oppose it. Sonia Gandhi ji should learn more about it and fully support the Indianisation of India’s education system.”
His remarks follow Sonia Gandhi’s article in The Hindu, where she argued that the NEP 2020 undermines federalism, diversity, and accessibility in education.
Rajnath Singh on Language Debate
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the language controversy in India, asserting that the BJP is committed to protecting all Indian languages. He stated:
“There is no competition between Hindi and other Indian languages; rather, there is cooperation. Some are unnecessarily creating controversy over Tamil and Hindi.”
His comments came during an event honoring Tamil warrior queen Rani Velu Nachiyar, amid ongoing tensions between the Tamil Nadu government and the Centre over the three-language policy in NEP.
