Tezpur University Hosts Workshop on NEP 2020 Classroom Engagement
The Department of Education at Tezpur University held a week-long workshop titled “School Internship in the Context of NEP 2020” from April 3 to 9, 2025. The goal was to prepare B.Ed. and M.Ed. students for effective classroom practices aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The sessions helped student-teachers gain hands-on experience, build practical skills, and reflect on teaching methods. This combination supports the core values of NEP 2020, such as inclusivity, experiential learning, and professional growth.
University Leaders Highlight Experiential Learning
The valedictory session on April 9 featured Vice Chancellor Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh. He stressed that internships are not just academic requirements. Rather, they offer a transformative experience where students apply theory to real classrooms.
Prof. Chandan Kumar Sharma, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, added that the workshop offered diverse insights. According to him, these learnings would aid student-teachers in shaping effective classroom environments.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sashapra Chakrawarty, Head of the Department of Education, urged future teachers to promote quality education. She encouraged them to stay committed to inclusion and meaningful learning outcomes.
Hands-On TLM Creation and Micro-Teaching
One key highlight was the creation of over 100 Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs) by second-semester students of B.Ed. and M.Ed. programs. These materials covered topics in:
- Languages
- Social Sciences
- Mathematics
- Biological Sciences
- Physical Sciences
Students showcased their work in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences building. This display reflected their creativity and subject understanding.
Moreover, the workshop included sessions on micro-teaching, lesson planning, and assessment methods. These activities gave students the tools to plan and conduct effective lessons.
Interactive Learning and Physical Engagement
In addition to academic sessions, the program included a day of sports-based experiential learning. This approach combined physical activity with teaching strategies, making learning more dynamic and holistic.
The workshop also featured guest lectures by resource persons from across India. These mentors shared practical tips and encouraged students to adopt modern teaching styles.
Faculty Coordination and Execution
Dr. Pratima Pallai and Dr. Sanghamitra Das, Assistant Professors in the department, coordinated the entire event. They ensured smooth planning, timely sessions, and active participation by all students.
A Step Toward Future-Ready Educators
In conclusion, the workshop succeeded in bridging theory with practice. It prepared student-teachers to face real classroom challenges under the NEP 2020 framework. With this initiative, Tezpur University reaffirmed its commitment to quality teacher education.
Such efforts will help future educators create classrooms that are inclusive, reflective, and engaging.
