Colleges Begin NEP 2020 Implementation

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed colleges to speed up the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Institutions must appoint three student ambassadors each and establish NEP help desks to guide students and staff. The aim is to build greater awareness about the major reforms proposed under the policy.

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya Joins NEP SAARTHI Project

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV) is among the first colleges to be enlisted for the NEP SAARTHI (Student Ambassador for Academic Reforms in Transforming Higher Education in India) project. The college has already set up a dedicated NEP-2020 help desk on campus. This step is part of a larger effort to involve students directly in promoting the policy’s objectives.

Student Ambassadors Lead the Awareness Drive

Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi shared that KMV appointed three student ambassadors — Sanya, Anushka, and Simran — to spearhead the initiative. “The UGC expects quick action,” she said. “Our ambassadors will visit local schools, their villages, and neighborhoods to spread information about NEP-2020.”

The college has included the student ambassadors in decision-making processes, giving them a real role in shaping institutional activities.

Activities to Promote Understanding of NEP

The SAARTHI team organized essay writing competitions where students discussed the benefits of NEP and ways to promote it. They also distributed handbills that explained NEP-2020’s major features, such as:

  • Holistic and multidisciplinary education
  • Emphasis on critical thinking
  • Use of the mother tongue as a medium of instruction
  • Integration of vocational education into mainstream learning

Students created slogans and posters reflecting the vision of NEP-2020, focusing on its learner-centric, flexible, and inclusive framework. These activities helped students engage more deeply with the reforms and understand their role in the transformation.

More Activities Planned for the Summer Break

Prof Dwivedi praised the efforts of the students and highlighted that more activities are in the pipeline. “We are planning a series of projects during the summer break as part of the NEP SAARTHI project,” she said.

Through initiatives like SAARTHI, colleges are not just following administrative reforms but are actively involving students to build a more informed and participative academic community.
