New Delhi, January 23, 2025 – Apurv Mishra, a member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC), delivered a strong message at the North India Education Summit 2025, emphasizing the urgent need for systemic education reforms to align with India’s aspirations of becoming a developed nation (Viksit Bharat) and a global power by 2047.
According to Mishra, education must be seen not just as a social and economic issue but as a key component of national security and strategic autonomy. “Education is a pressing national security concern,” he remarked. “For India to be a developed country by 2047, we need to foster world-class capabilities in frontier technologies.” He further underscored the importance of incremental reforms in higher education, which include faceless assessments, updated teaching practices, improved infrastructure, better parent-student accountability, alumni involvement, and healthy funding for state universities and PhD ecosystems.
The summit, organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Delhi, gathered policymakers, educators, and thought leaders to discuss strategies for tackling challenges within the teaching and institutional frameworks. A focal point was the creation of an ecosystem to advance deep science and build capabilities in emerging technologies.
Simrin Bakshi, Chairperson of the North India Education Committee, ICC, also addressed the need for stronger industry-academia linkages and quality faculty. She highlighted the importance of innovation in education, stating, “Aligning India’s education system with its global ambitions is crucial. By addressing systemic gaps and embracing innovation, we can position education as a transformative tool for societal and economic change.”
The summit also featured discussions on the role of innovation in education, particularly in the fields of technology, pedagogy, and sustainability. The event stressed the need for equitable learning environments that can empower individuals to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the broader world.
