Birla Global University (BGU), Bhubaneswar, recently hosted a Commencement Day event for the newly inducted students of the Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication (BAJMC) 2024-28 batch and Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication (MAJMC) 2024-26 batch at its Gothapatna campus. The event featured expert speakers from the media industry and esteemed faculty members who shared valuable insights with the students.
Keynote Speakers and Highlights:
- Subranshu Panda, Guest of Honour: As the Head of Corporate Communication at Tata Steel, Kalinganagar and Meramandali, Subranshu Panda addressed the importance of media and corporate communication. He emphasized the crucial role of crisis communication in Public Relations (PR), stating, “Crisis communication is a critical function for any corp com professional that involves managing and mitigating the impact of unforeseen events that can harm an organisation’s reputation.”
- Prof Ashok Kumar Panda, Adjunct Professor, BGU: Prof Panda offered inspiration and guidance to the new students by discussing the 3Cs—Connect, Communicate, Collaborate. He also highlighted the current job opportunities in print, electronic, and digital media, encouraging students to explore these dynamic fields.
- Prof PP Mathur, Vice-Chancellor, BGU: Prof Mathur focused on the evolving practices of journalism, particularly in the context of growing digital media. He emphasized the need for students to adapt to these changes and stay updated with new trends in journalism.
- Prof BK Das, Registrar, BGU: Prof Das spoke on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on journalism and how it is reshaping the media landscape. He also stressed the importance of developing the right attitude for career success and encouraged students to consider entrepreneurship as a viable career path.
- Shiv Shankar Das, Associate Dean, Birla School of Communication: Highlighting the significance of the BAJMC and MAJMC programs, Shiv Shankar Das urged students to actively engage in content creation and aim to set new benchmarks in journalism and mass communication.
