January 27, 2025: Ahead of the Class 10 and 12 board exams commencing on February 15, 2025, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reinforced its stance on exam rule violations. In a newly issued notification, CBSE has emphasized strict adherence to examination protocols to uphold academic integrity.
Focus on Ethical Exam Conduct
CBSE has taken a firm stance against unfair practices to ensure fair examinations. The board’s official notice reiterates the importance of compliance with its Unfair Means Rules and urges principals of affiliated schools to spread awareness among students and parents.
The statement from CBSE underscores:
“Conducting fair examinations is essential in the academic interest of students. Detailed ‘Unfair Means Rules’ have been framed by CBSE, and it is imperative that all students appearing for board exams are informed about these guidelines and ethical practices.”
Key Guidelines for Schools and Students
To maintain the integrity of the examination process, CBSE has outlined the following responsibilities:
- Schools must educate students about the exam policies and associated penalties.
- Exam officials should receive comprehensive training about their roles.
- Students are advised to steer clear of rumors that could disrupt the examination process.
- Parents need to be informed of exam policies to ensure compliance.
- On exam day, students must avoid carrying prohibited items, such as electronic communication devices, into the exam center.
Updated ‘Unfair Means Act’ and Penalties
A significant update to the Unfair Means Act targets individuals spreading false rumors that disrupt exams. Offenders will face stringent consequences, including:
- Immediate Penalty: Cancellation of current and subsequent year’s exams across all subjects.
- Eligibility Restriction: Offenders will only be allowed to reappear for exams after the two-year ban.
Under Category-3 Violations, penalties now apply to:
- Possession or use of electronic devices functioning as communication tools within the exam premises.
- Any breach corroborated by invigilator or inspection staff reports.
Ensuring Exam Integrity
CBSE has urged schools, students, and parents to strictly follow the guidelines to preserve the fairness of the board examinations. The notification serves as a reminder of the board’s commitment to maintaining ethical standards and addressing violations with stringent penalties.
By fostering awareness and promoting compliance, CBSE aims to create an examination environment that reflects academic honesty and upholds the value of education.
