Three Arrested for Impersonation in CBSE Exam in Delhi
Three individuals were arrested in connection with an alleged impersonation scam during the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recruitment examination, which took place in a South Delhi school on April 20. According to Delhi Police, the incident came to light when biometric verification failed to match the candidate’s photo during the screening process.
Biometric Mismatch Reveals Impersonation
The complaint was lodged by a teacher at the examination center, who reported that an individual appeared on behalf of a candidate. During the biometric verification, a mismatch was detected between the candidate’s uploaded data and the person present at the exam center. The examination was for the recruitment of superintendent and junior assistant positions, with over 200 vacancies nationwide.
Two officials from the company managing the biometric process alerted the center in charge about the impersonation. The police were subsequently informed, and investigations led to the identification of the accused individuals: Nitin, a resident of Haryana’s Jhajjar, and Sachin, from Rohtak.
Arrests Made in the Case
The police acted swiftly, arresting Sachin from the examination center on the same day. Based on further interrogation, two additional arrests were made over the next four days. While the investigation is still in its early stages, police believe the scam is part of a larger network, with financial transactions involved. The details of the second suspects are yet to be revealed.
Legal Action and Investigation
A case under sections 319(2) (cheating by impersonation) and 318(4) (cheating) of the BNS was filed. As the investigation progresses, more arrests and details of the wider network are expected to surface.
