The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an update to its curriculum for the academic year 2024-25, implementing changes specifically for classes 3 and 6. This adjustment comes as part of CBSE’s adoption of the “National Curriculum Framework – School Education 2023,” aligning with national educational goals. For all other classes, no curriculum changes have been introduced.
In a recent circular, CBSE addressed the update, clarifying confusion among affiliated schools regarding the scope of the new curriculum. All CBSE-affiliated schools are instructed to continue using the existing curriculum and textbooks for all classes except for classes 3 and 6.
Textbook Availability for Class 3 and 6
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), which is responsible for developing the updated curriculum, has informed CBSE that textbooks for class 6 will be available by July 2024. Schools are advised to switch to the updated curriculum for these classes once the new textbooks are released.
This development highlights a transitional step for CBSE as it works with NCERT to integrate the new curriculum framework, designed to align teaching methods and content with contemporary educational standards.
Implementation of the National Curriculum Framework
The “National Curriculum Framework – School Education 2023” emphasizes a progressive approach to learning and teaching. Schools are expected to implement recommendations from this framework, which include enhanced pedagogical methods and new learning outcomes designed to benefit students’ overall development.
CBSE has also issued curriculum guidelines for classes 9 to 12 for the year, including details on learning outcomes, assessment standards, and pedagogical methods.
Additional Support for Transition
To assist students with the transition, NCERT has developed a bridge course for class 6 and concise guidelines for class 3 in line with the new educational approach. These resources aim to provide students with a structured learning pathway, ensuring they adapt seamlessly to the updated curriculum requirements.
Schools are advised to monitor updates from CBSE regarding curriculum and textbook availability for the 2024-25 academic year. Parents and educators are encouraged to keep informed through official CBSE channels for any additional announcements.
