CBSE Officials to Inspect Telangana Schools Amid Concerns Over Dummy Institutions
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has initiated inspections of schools in Telangana to address concerns regarding dummy institutions falsely claiming CBSE affiliation. Regional CBSE officers from Vijayawada will conduct these inspections and submit detailed reports to the CBSE chairman, recommending necessary actions, including disaffiliation of non-compliant schools.
CBSE has urged parents to verify a school’s affiliation before enrolling their children. The board has also directed schools to display their affiliation details on their websites, ensuring transparency in admissions.
CBSE’s Action Against Dummy Schools
Verification of School Affiliation
CBSE has emphasized that every affiliated school must publish key details on its official website, including:
- Year of establishment
- Infrastructure details
- Staff qualifications
Parents can verify a school’s affiliation status using its unique affiliation number on the CBSE SARAS 6.0 website, which provides information on:
- Active affiliations
- Affiliated institutions
- Changes in affiliation status (including disaffiliations)
Currently, 638 schools in Telangana hold CBSE affiliation, with 128 located in Hyderabad. However, experts caution that some institutions misuse CBSE recognition to mislead parents.
How Dummy Schools Mislead Parents
Education experts warn that some school managements operate multiple institutions but obtain CBSE affiliation for only one. Despite this, they falsely claim all their schools are CBSE-recognized, leading to:
- Unregulated tuition centers operating under the CBSE name
- Students appearing for board exams through affiliated schools
- Parents unknowingly enrolling children in unrecognized institutions
“These institutions often function as tuition centers rather than full-fledged schools. Since they are not regulated by law, parents and students face difficulties later, especially when applying for board exams,” an education expert explained.
CBSE Affiliation Process and Compliance Checks
Schools seeking CBSE affiliation must undergo a rigorous approval process, which takes one to two years, depending on:
- Compliance with CBSE norms
- Fulfillment of infrastructure and academic requirements
If deficiencies are found, CBSE provides schools with two to three months to rectify issues. However, if a school fails to meet mandatory infrastructure and academic standards, its application is rejected outright.
Misleading Practices by Non-Affiliated Schools
To avoid rejection, some school managements continue to falsely advertise CBSE affiliation, misleading students and parents.
- These schools send students for board exams through affiliated institutions, bypassing CBSE regulations.
- Misleading advertisements create confusion among parents who assume all branches of a school are CBSE-affiliated.
Educationist Vasireddy Amarnath warned, “Such schools violate CBSE norms and mislead parents. Many institutions falsely advertise their affiliation, putting students’ future at risk.”
CBSE’s Measures to Eliminate Dummy Schools
CBSE has taken strict measures to eliminate dummy schools and protect students from misleading claims.
- If a school admits students without a valid affiliation number, the responsibility for their education and future lies solely with the institution.
- Schools found guilty of misrepresenting their affiliation face disaffiliation, penalties, and legal action.
A CBSE official confirmed, “CBSE is committed to ensuring that students are not misled by fraudulent institutions. Any school violating affiliation norms will face strict action.”
As CBSE continues its inspections in Telangana, parents are advised to verify school credentials carefully before admissions to avoid complications in their child’s education.
