Celebrating Skill Excellence: Kaushal Deekshant Samaroh 2024 Recognizes India’s Skilled Workforce

The annual Kaushal Deekshant Samaroh 2024 was a momentous occasion as Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi congratulated the toppers of the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) and Craft Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) from Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skills Development Institutes (NSTIs) across India. Organized by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), this event celebrated the achievements of over 8 lakh graduates, underscoring their commitment to skill excellence.

The ceremony took place simultaneously at more than 15,000 ITIs and 33 NSTIs, marking a significant milestone in India’s skilling ecosystem. The central event was held at the Kaushal Bhawan Auditorium in New Delhi, attended by Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), along with key stakeholders. The event was live-streamed to institutions nationwide, reaching over 19 lakh students.

In his message, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the Kaushal Deekshant Samaroh as a unique gathering of students from ITIs, NSTIs, ITOTs, and various institutions. He encouraged graduates, viewing the ceremony as a milestone marking not only the completion of their training but the start of a new chapter in their lives. He emphasized that the skills acquired by these young professionals can propel India’s development and support the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

The Role of Skilled Youth

The Prime Minister noted that India’s skilled youth are its greatest asset and vital contributors to the nation’s growth. He emphasized that India is increasingly recognized as a global powerhouse of skilled talent due to its young workforce’s expertise. With policies aimed at empowering youth, MSDE is committed to offering future-ready, globally relevant skill training. Modi expressed optimism that enhanced internship opportunities, technical education improvements, and international partnerships would enable young professionals to leave a significant mark on the global workforce, contributing to India’s ambition of becoming the world’s third-largest economy.

Results and Recognition

The Directorate General of Training (DGT) conducted the All India Trade Test (AITT) for the academic session 2023-24 for 1-year trades and 2022-24 for 2-year trades under CTS. Over 19 lakh students participated, achieving a pass percentage of 87.34%. For CITS, 9,292 students took the final examination, with a pass percentage of 84.73%.

During the Kaushal Deekshant Samaroh, 48 students from CTS and CITS were recognized, including all-India toppers, trade toppers, and female toppers in hard engineering trades. The participation of Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) in local ceremonies highlighted the collective commitment to skill development throughout India. Minister Jayant Chaudhary stated that their presence symbolizes the importance of fostering skill development at all levels.

Inspiring Stories and New Initiatives

The event featured Ms. Preethi Pal, a distinguished young para-athlete, as the guest of honor. She shared her inspiring journey, encouraging students to remain resolute in their pursuits despite challenges. Medalists from the World Skill Competition 2024 also recounted their experiences, showcasing India’s growing presence on the global skilling stage.

MSDE announced new initiatives to align the skilling framework with industry demands. A foundational module on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for ITI students was introduced, alongside a new Employability Skills (ES) Facilitator Manual to enhance training. New learning materials for the CITS, covering critical trades like Fitter, Electrician, and Computer Software Applications, were also launched, ensuring instructors are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills.
