The Directorate of Higher Education has advised colleges across the state to adopt five to six nearby government schools and share their human and infrastructural resources with the students and staff of those schools. This initiative encourages greater collaboration between higher education institutions and schools, providing valuable support to students.

Independent Adoption by Faculty

In addition to college-wide efforts, Associate and Assistant Professors are encouraged to independently adopt schools of their choice, separate from those adopted by their colleges. This offers an opportunity for faculty members to contribute individually to the growth and development of school students.

Background of the Scheme

The state government launched an innovative scheme in which ministers, MPs, MLAs, government officers, civil society members, and philanthropists adopt schools. The aim of the initiative is to guide students toward becoming responsible and successful citizens through mentorship and support in various educational and extracurricular activities.

Activities Proposed for Adopted Schools

The Directorate has outlined several activities that colleges are expected to carry out in the adopted schools:

  • Career Counseling and Guidance: Colleges will offer career advice and guidance to help students make informed decisions about their future paths.
  • Anti-Drug Education: Faculty will share knowledge on the importance of anti-drug squads and how to address drug abuse.
  • Women’s Cell and Discipline Education: Colleges will also focus on educating students about the functioning of women’s cells and the importance of discipline and general etiquette in life.

In addition to these efforts, visits by academic teams to the adopted schools will be facilitated, creating opportunities for enhanced learning experiences.

Amarjeet Sharma, Director of Higher Education, emphasized the value of this initiative, stating that some government colleges have already taken steps in this direction. The participation of other colleges will benefit both the students and society at large.
