The Delhi government has initiated a special audit of 12 Delhi University (DU) colleges fully funded by the state, following allegations of financial irregularities raised by Chief Minister Atishi. The Directorate of Audit has formed an eight-member team to conduct the audit after reviewing a status report submitted by a high-level committee.
In a directive issued last week, the Directorate of Higher Education was instructed to ensure that the concerned colleges provide the necessary records and assistance for the audit. This follows an earlier joint meeting of DU’s Academic Council (AC) and Executive Council (EC), where the university accepted the findings of a 10-member committee that found no evidence of financial misconduct in the 12 colleges.
Despite this, the special audit has been greenlit to further examine the financial activities of the colleges. Last year, Atishi raised concerns about procedural lapses involving large sums of public funds, suggesting either merging the colleges under Delhi government control or transferring full responsibility to the central government.
The audit will seek to resolve these allegations and determine the financial standing of the colleges in question.
