Delhi University (DU) is set to offer its first NEP 2020 batch the chance to complete their final year semester at a foreign university. This unique opportunity, part of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), hinges on the approval of recommendations submitted by a committee tasked with implementing the initiative.
Twinning Degree Program Details
The twinning degree arrangement, introduced earlier this year, allows students to undertake one semester at select Foreign Higher Educational Institutions (FHEIs). Key highlights of the program include:
- Eligibility: Students enrolled in FYUP from the 2022-23 academic year onwards.
- Timing:
- First-year students can study abroad in their third or fifth semesters.
- Second-year students can participate during their fifth or seventh semesters.
- Final-year students can opt for the seventh semester abroad.
- Credit Transfer: Students will earn a minimum of 12 credits and a maximum of 26 credits abroad. Upon return, degrees will be awarded by Delhi University, the parent institution.
Support for Economically Weaker Students
The program aims to include meritorious students from economically weaker sections. Delhi University plans to fund one or two students from this category, with an objective selection process to ensure fairness.
Implementation and Collaboration
The International Relations Office (IRO) at Delhi University will oversee partnerships with foreign universities. Their responsibilities include:
- Negotiating course fees and curriculum.
- Arranging student medical insurance, accommodation, and logistical support.
An academic expert committee will evaluate FHEIs based on global university rankings, such as the QS World Rankings and Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings. Only universities ranked within 25% lower than Delhi University’s global rank—or comparable discipline-specific ranks—will be eligible for collaboration.
Informing Students
Details about participating foreign universities and program requirements will be made available on Delhi University’s website. This ensures transparency and allows students to make informed decisions about their semester abroad.
