Dr. Harisingh Gour Central University in Madhya Pradesh is set to collaborate with several Spanish universities for faculty and student exchange programs. This initiative, spearheaded by Sagar University Vice-Chancellor Professor Neelima Gupta, is aimed at fostering academic and research partnerships. The agreement is still pending signature.
As a member of the Indian University Association’s Governing Council, Professor Neelima Gupta visited Spain from July 8 to 11. Her itinerary included visits to the Autonomous University of Barcelona, IE University Madrid, Autonomous University of Madrid, and University of Valladolid, where she engaged in discussions about academics, research, and policy.
International Seminar in Spain
During her visit, Professor Gupta participated in an international seminar designed to strengthen ties between Indian and Spanish universities. The seminar saw the Indian delegation visit five universities across Barcelona, Madrid, and Valladolid, discussing topics such as:
- Academic and research partnerships
- Student and faculty exchange programs
- Cooperation in various academic fields

UGC’s Role in Internationalisation
Professor Gupta emphasized the importance of internationalizing education, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020. She referred to the 2021 UGC guidelines, which advocate for establishing Indian university centers abroad and foreign university centers in India. Her discussions in Spain covered various collaborative programs such as twinning programs, joint degree programs, and dual degree programs. She also reviewed schemes sponsored by DST, UGC, and INSA that are operational in India.
Future Collaborations
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted that Dr. Harisingh Gour University will play a pivotal role in the internationalization of education through these academic partnerships and research collaborations. The university’s International Cell will implement the insights and experiences from her visit to Spain, facilitating cooperative efforts in courses and research with Spanish universities.
