Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Monday the upcoming launch of awards to recognize outstanding teachers and school heads in the state. This initiative aims to promote teaching as a career choice, encourage the adoption of effective teaching methods, and elevate the status of educators in the community.

According to Sukhu, a total of 24 teachers will be honored annually under two categories: general areas and tribal/hard areas. Of these, 15 awards will be allocated to teachers in general areas, while 9 awards will recognize educators in tribal and hard-to-reach regions.

Additionally, the government plans to present six special awards to teachers who have demonstrated exceptional innovation, implemented state flagship programs effectively, or undertaken special initiatives. The categories and criteria for these special awards may vary each year, providing flexibility to recognize diverse contributions.

Eligibility for these awards extends to teachers serving in District Institutes of Education and Training, State Council of Educational Research and Training, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan. Selections will be based on recommendations from a state-level committee formed under the State Award Scheme.

Sukhu emphasized the Congress government’s dedication to delivering quality education accessible to all students, with initiatives like facilitating international exposure visits for teachers to bring back and implement best practices in Himachal Pradesh’s schools.
