On Monday, a new three-storey school building in Bhaktapur, Nepal, was inaugurated, thanks to a grant of NRs 11.30 million provided by India. The grant, under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ framework, was used to construct the Shree Mahendra Shanti Secondary School, enhancing educational facilities for local students.

The project, part of the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) agreement between India and Nepal, represents a significant contribution to community development. The inauguration was marked by appreciation from Nepalese leaders for India’s ongoing support in improving Nepal’s infrastructure and education sector.

Background of Shree Mahendra Shanti Secondary School:

  • Establishment: Originally established in 1952 as a primary school and upgraded to a secondary school in 1995.
  • Current Status: The school serves students from Nursery to 12th standard, with approximately 800 students enrolled, 45% of whom are girls.
  • Significance: As one of the oldest schools in the district, it plays a crucial role in the community’s educational landscape.

The new building will bolster the school’s infrastructure, aligning with India’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s development and educational initiatives.
