A five-day workshop on the Internet of Things (IoT) trained scheduled caste (SC) and scheduled tribe (ST) students from various higher education institutions in Goa. Held at Govt College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Quepem, the program provided practical exposure to IoT applications and hands-on experience.
Hands-on Training with IoT Kits
The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Bengaluru, collaborated with the directorate of higher education and Govt College, Quepem, to conduct the training. The workshop targeted students from computer science, electronics, physics, and IT backgrounds, helping them grasp IoT systems, protocols, and implementation.
A total of 81 students from across Goa participated. Each received an IoT kit from C-DAC to encourage experimentation and problem-solving. According to Kavita Asnani, the workshop coordinator, these kits will help students develop practical IoT solutions for real-world challenges.
Faculty Training for Sustainable Learning
Faculty members also received IoT training, ensuring they could mentor students in projects and research. This approach will help sustain learning beyond the workshop.
S D Sudarsan, executive director of C-DAC, emphasized that the initiative plays a crucial role in democratizing technology access. He stated that students from all backgrounds must have equal opportunities to experiment, innovate, and create solutions.
This training not only enhanced students’ technical skills but also prepared them for future opportunities in IoT-driven industries.
