Karnataka Sets Clear Admission Guidelines for 2025–26
The Karnataka Department of School Education and Literacy has released new admission rules for the 2025–26 academic year. These apply to all private aided and unaided schools, including those affiliated with CBSE and ICSE. The department has stressed the need for fairness, transparency, and accountability in the entire admission process.
Officials have also warned that any violation of the new regulations will invite strict disciplinary action.
Information Must Be Publicly Displayed
All schools must display the following details:
- Admission schedule and process
- Number of available seats by class
- Approved fee structure
This information must be made visible on:
- The school’s official notice board
- The school website
- The SATS (Student Achievement Tracking System) portal
- The school prospectus
This step is aimed at ensuring parents receive complete information without confusion or delay.
50% Reservation for Girls in Co-ed Schools
To promote gender equity, the new rules require co-educational schools to reserve 50% of their total intake for girls. If the number of female applicants is lower, the remaining seats may be given to boys.
In addition, schools must comply with reservation norms for SC, ST, and OBC students. However, minority institutions (linguistic or religious) are exempt from this requirement.
Fee Structure Must Be Transparent
All schools must strictly follow the approved fee structure. The department has prohibited:
- Charging any extra or hidden fees
- Demanding capitation fees in any form
Violations will lead to serious consequences under existing laws and regulations.
Interviews Are Banned
Schools are not allowed to conduct interviews with either students or parents during the admission process. This is a key regulation meant to prevent any form of subjective selection or discrimination.
Strict Monitoring of CBSE and ICSE Schools
CBSE and ICSE schools are expected to comply with both their respective board rules and the state’s circulars. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action from the state education department.
Final Note: A Push for Transparent Admissions
These new guidelines aim to protect the interests of students and parents. The department has made it clear that every school must adhere to fair practices. Schools are expected to fully cooperate and ensure a uniform, discrimination-free admission process for the academic year 2025–26.
