KISS-DU Hosts Distinguished Lecture on Indian Knowledge Systems and NEP 2020 & 2023

On September 20, 2024, KISS Deemed to be University (KISS-DU) in Bhubaneswar held an insightful lecture titled “NEP 2020 and 2023: Indian Knowledge Systems and Shaping Future Leaders.” Organized by the School of Tribal Culture, Philosophy, and Eco-spiritualism (STCPE) in collaboration with the Center for Indigenous Cultural Heritage and Diversity, the event emphasized the National Education Policy’s role in integrating Indian knowledge systems to nurture future leaders.

The lecture featured two eminent personalities:

  • Mr. Timothy Breck Boyd, International President of the Theosophical Society
  • Dr. V. Ramanathan, a distinguished professor from IIT (BHU), Varanasi

Program Highlights

The event began with opening remarks from Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, the Vice-Chancellor of KISS-DU. A special video was showcased, highlighting KISS-DU’s mission to provide free education to tribal students, led by its visionary Founder, Prof. Dr. Achyuta Samanta. The university recently made headlines by entering the Guinness Book of World Records for the “Largest Singing Lesson”, in partnership with Grammy award-winning musician Ricky Kej.

Keynote Addresses

Mr. Boyd captivated the audience with his address, sharing the Theosophical Society’s vision of promoting wisdom and philosophical education. He emphasized the importance of harmony and understanding in a world increasingly divided by commerce and culture, highlighting knowledge as a transformative tool for bridging global divides.

Following Mr. Boyd, Dr. Ramanathan presented a compelling discussion on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and 2023, focusing on the inclusion of Indian Knowledge Systems. He explored India’s rich educational history and contributions to technology, referencing ancient texts like the Rasārṇava and innovations such as Iron Technology. Dr. Ramanathan articulated how the NEP reforms aim to reshape India’s educational framework, nurturing leaders grounded in both indigenous wisdom and modern skills. He provided quantitative data, including GDP figures, to underscore the economic advantages of reviving traditional knowledge systems.

The event concluded with a lively Q&A session, fostering dialogue on the integration of indigenous knowledge into contemporary education systems.
