NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Metropolitan Board of Education has passed a resolution urging Congress to increase and sustain federal funding for public schools. The resolution advocates for the passage of two key pieces of legislation: the Keep Our Pact Act and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Full Funding Act (IDEA).
The Keep Our Pact Act aims to provide extended funding through 2033 for grant programs operated by local education agencies, focusing on delivering educational and related services to low-achieving students and other students attending primary and secondary schools.
The IDEA Full Funding Act would establish mandatory funding over a 10-year period, ensuring that 40% of the average per-pupil expenditure for educating students with disabilities is fully covered.
The resolution takes immediate effect and reflects the board’s commitment to securing long-term financial support for equitable education in Nashville.
