PM Modi: National Education Policy Has Transformed Indian Education
New Delhi, April 29, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday stated that the National Education Policy (NEP) has brought about transformative changes in India’s education landscape, enhancing access to modern education, promoting research and innovation, and opening up new career pathways for students.
Speaking at the Uniting Academia, Industry and Innovators for Viksit Bharat (YUGM) conclave—jointly organised by the Union Education Ministry and the Wadhwani Foundation—PM Modi highlighted the wide-ranging impact of initiatives rolled out since NEP’s implementation.
AI-Based Infrastructure and Multilingual Learning
He emphasized the establishment of a unified digital ecosystem through initiatives like PM e-Vidya and the DIKSHA platform, under the vision of “One Nation, One Digital Education Infrastructure.” This scalable, AI-powered framework is now being used to create textbooks in over 30 Indian languages and 7 foreign languages, enabling equitable and multilingual access to learning.
“Steps like the National Curriculum Framework, updated learning-teaching materials, and new textbooks for Classes 1 to 7 have already been completed,” the Prime Minister noted.
Expanding Opportunities Through Credit and Careers
Highlighting the National Credit Framework, PM Modi said that it now allows students to pursue multiple subjects simultaneously, reflecting the policy’s focus on flexibility and skill development. The shift has led to modern career pathways for students that were previously inaccessible.
Boost to Research and Development
A major focus of the speech was on India’s growing research ecosystem. PM Modi pointed out that gross expenditure on R&D has more than doubled from ₹60,000 crore in 2013–14 to over ₹1.25 lakh crore today. This has been supported by the creation of:
- State-of-the-art research parks
- R&D cells in over 6,000 higher education institutions
- A growing innovation culture
The country has also seen a significant rise in intellectual property output, with the number of patents doubling from around 40,000 in 2014 to over 80,000 now.
National Research Foundation and One Nation, One Subscription
To strengthen India’s research base, the government has launched the National Research Foundation with a substantial budget of ₹50,000 crore. In addition, the One Nation, One Subscription initiative is enabling free access to global research journals, giving students and researchers the tools to succeed in global academia.
PM Modi also mentioned the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship, which supports talented youth in pursuing research and higher education without facing financial hurdles.
