NEP: A Pathway to Technological Growth
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized India’s commitment to reclaiming its historical position as a global technology leader. Speaking at Kashi-Tamil Sangamam 3.0 in Varanasi, he stated that the New Education Policy (NEP) is designed to equip individuals for emerging global challenges.
He noted that India has historically been a hub for technological advancements, and the NEP is a crucial step toward regaining that stature. He highlighted India’s achievements in space technology and artificial intelligence (AI), citing the contributions of young professionals in these fields. The Prime Minister’s participation in the AI Summit in Paris further underscored India’s commitment to AI development.
Integrating Tradition with Technology
Jaishankar stressed that India’s technological progress is not limited to modern fields but also involves a deep connection with traditional knowledge. He pointed out that practices such as yoga and traditional medicine have gained global recognition despite initial skepticism.
“India is blending tradition with innovation,” he remarked, adding that the Indian knowledge system can contribute significantly to technological advancements. He encouraged rediscovering and promoting these ancient practices, ensuring they complement modern scientific advancements.
NEP’s Role in Future Technologies
The NEP is fostering innovation across industries, including drone technology, AI, and space exploration. Jaishankar stated that the new education framework is instrumental in nurturing talent and promoting India’s presence in global technology industries.
He reiterated the importance of aligning traditional knowledge with scientific progress, ensuring that India leverages its rich heritage while advancing in high-tech fields. The NEP, he emphasized, is a strategic approach to preparing the nation for the evolving global landscape.
