Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court is set to hear New Tulip International School’s petition challenging the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) decision to disaffiliate its higher secondary section. The school, represented by advocate Nikunt Raval, has questioned the validity of CBSE’s action, arguing that it does not comply with the board’s regulatory framework.

CBSE Ordered to Hold Student Transfers

During a hearing on February 27, Justice Nirzar Desai directed the CBSE not to transfer students from the disaffiliated school and asked the board to submit a reply. The next hearing is scheduled for March 6, 2025, where the CBSE is expected to present its arguments. The disaffiliation decision, made in December 2024, followed an inspection of the school premises.

School Alleges ‘Unfair Assessment’

According to Tejas Sridhar, trustee of New Tulip International School, the inspection was conducted on December 19, 2024, just days before a major school event, which led to lower student attendance. He stated:

“CBSE cannot declare us a dummy school based on a single day’s inspection. We provided all necessary records the same day, yet the board proceeded with disaffiliation.”

Sridhar further mentioned that a formal request has been submitted to the CBSE chairman for reconsideration, as the decision impacts around 800 students in the senior classes.

Nirman High School Also Challenges CBSE Decision

In a related case, Nirman High School, another institution facing CBSE disaffiliation, has submitted a representation to the board and is awaiting a response.

With the hearing set for March 6, the CBSE’s response and the court’s decision will be crucial in determining the future of these schools and their students.
