The Odisha government has announced the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 across all state schools, bringing a transformative shift in the state’s education system. This initiative incorporates the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) with local adaptations, affecting both schools and higher education institutions.

The School and Mass Education Department made the announcement, underscoring the government’s dedication to strengthening Odisha’s educational framework. The adoption of NEP 2020 is aligned with the Ministry of Education’s vision for modernization and aims to introduce significant changes, including multidisciplinary learning and flexible education pathways.

This initiative follows Odisha’s earlier decision to implement NEP 2020 in state-run universities and colleges starting from the 2024-25 academic session. The reforms will focus on:

  • Multidisciplinary Learning: Encouraging students to explore diverse subjects and integrate knowledge across disciplines.
  • Skill Development: Equipping students with practical skills for improved employability.
  • Choice-Based Credit System: Providing students with greater academic flexibility.
  • Enhanced Educational Pathways: Introducing flexible learning options tailored to individual needs.

The policy aims to align Odisha’s education system with global standards while addressing local educational needs. The integration of NEP 2020 is expected to create a balanced and holistic learning environment, paving the way for future-ready students and fostering educational excellence across the state.
