The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, is driving significant changes in the education sector through its flagship ‘Punjab Sikhya Kranti’ campaign. In an effort to transform government schools into modern centres of learning, the state is upgrading infrastructure and introducing contemporary teaching practices.
During a public address after dedicating development projects worth ₹1.41 crore across nine government schools in the Lehragaga constituency, Punjab Cabinet Minister Sh. Barinder Kumar Goyal highlighted the campaign’s progress. He noted that this initiative is aimed at enhancing the quality of education in government schools and restoring public trust in the state education system.
“Efforts are being made at every level to improve government education. As a result, student morale is rising and parents are confidently choosing government schools for their children’s future,” said Sh. Goyal.
Preference Shifts from Private to Government Schools
The Minister also pointed out a major shift in parental preferences. Increasingly, parents are moving their children out of private schools and into government institutions. This change reflects growing appreciation for the state’s education model, driven by improved infrastructure, curriculum, and teacher training.
The Punjab Government is sending its teachers to top national and international institutes for training in advanced teaching methods. This ensures that the quality of instruction keeps pace with global standards and improves student learning outcomes.
Schools of Eminence and Structural Reforms
In addition to infrastructure upgrades, the government has established Schools of Eminence across Punjab, which focus on providing quality education to students from all backgrounds. These schools are expected to serve as benchmarks for other institutions and play a crucial role in elevating the state’s academic standards.
Sh. Goyal emphasized that sending children to government schools, once seen as a compulsion, is now becoming a preferred choice for many families due to the reforms introduced under the Mann government.
Welfare Schemes and Social Justice
The Cabinet Minister also spoke about other welfare measures being implemented by the state. According to him, the government is committed to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision of equality and social justice, with notable steps such as:
- Inclusion of six Scheduled Caste ministers in the state Cabinet.
- Implementation of reservations in the Advocate General’s Office.
- Ensuring timely and efficient distribution of scholarships to eligible students.
Education and Healthcare at the Core
The Mann Government continues to focus on strengthening both education and healthcare. While schools are being reformed under the Sikhya Kranti initiative, the state’s healthcare system is also being upgraded, aiming to provide affordable and accessible services to the people of Punjab.
Community Participation
The inauguration event was attended by a range of officials and local leaders, including District Education Officer (Elementary) Baljinder Kaur, PA Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Block President Satish Kumar Moonak, and several MCs, sarpanches, panches, and other community representatives.
The Punjab Sikhya Kranti campaign is emerging as a landmark step in reshaping public education. With the state’s continued commitment to improvement, government schools in Punjab are set to become models of modern, inclusive, and high-quality education.
