Rice University Ranked No. 6 in WalletHub’s 2025 College and University Rankings

Rice University has been recognized as the sixth-best college in the nation in WalletHub’s 2025 College and University Rankings, solidifying its position as the top university in Texas and the Southern region. This latest accolade reflects Rice’s dedication to academic excellence and student success, as the Owls excelled in various categories. The university ranked ninth nationally for educational outcomes, 14th in faculty resources, 17th in student selectivity, and 31st in career outcomes.

To determine the top-performing institutions with the lowest costs for undergraduates, WalletHub analyzed 822 U.S. higher education institutions using 30 key measures across seven categories, including student selectivity, cost and financing, faculty resources, campus safety, campus experience, educational outcomes, and career outcomes.

Strategic Growth and Recognition

This recognition arrives as Rice announces its new 10-year strategic plan, “Momentous: Personalized Scale for Global Impact,” which aims to position the university as a global leader in teaching and research. The plan signifies Rice’s commitment to enhancing its educational impact and expanding its global presence.

In addition to WalletHub’s rankings, Rice University has recently garnered significant accolades in other assessments. Last month, it was ranked 18th in the 2025 U.S. News & World Report “Best Colleges” rankings, achieving impressive placements, including sixth for best value and seventh for undergraduate teaching programs. Furthermore, Rice climbed 13 spots to break into the top 10 on Forbes’ list of top colleges for the first time this year. Forbes also recognized Rice as the most affordable private institution among its “New Ivies.” Additionally, Rice holds the 19th position for “Best Value” in the latest Wall Street Journal college rankings.
