Samuel Harshith Tsapa, an 18-year-old who secured the 24th rank in the NEET UG 2023 exam, credits his inspiration for pursuing medicine to the dedication of healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite achieving a remarkable score that could have earned him a place at top institutions like AIIMS, Samuel chose to pursue his MBBS at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore. CMC, ranked third in India according to the NIRF 2024 rankings, is located near his home, and his decision was influenced by family and teachers.
Samuel’s success in NEET was the result of a well-structured preparation strategy, emphasizing the use of short notes for quick revision. He continually updated and refined his notes, focusing on NCERT textbooks, especially for Chemistry. His disciplined revision routine allowed him to revisit key concepts efficiently, and he supplemented his studies by practising previous years’ JEE Main questions and materials from resources like NS Avasthi.
In addition to his traditional study methods, Samuel utilized online platforms such as YouTube and the Memo NEET app to reinforce his understanding of Biology and Physics. He also listened to audio versions of NCERT textbooks, maximizing his learning time while on the go. Effective time management was critical during the NEET exam, and Samuel recalled solving five Physics questions in the final minutes of the test, highlighting the importance of staying calm under pressure.
With a strong academic background, including a 97.4% score in his Class 12 board exams, Samuel is now focusing on his future. He is considering a career in medical research after completing his MBBS, with an aim to contribute further to the field of healthcare. His journey serves as a testament to the value of perseverance, strategic planning, and consistent effort in achieving success.
