A recent study by College Vidya highlights a significant increase in women’s participation in technical education in India from 2019 to 2024. This upward trend is expected to reshape the technology sector in the coming years.

The study reveals that female enrollment in BTech and MTech programs has dramatically risen, from 4% in 2022 to approximately 10% in 2024. In BSc and MSc programs, female enrollment has surged to about 30%, nearly doubling since 2019.

Several factors contribute to this positive trend. Enhanced access to online study materials has empowered women to access quality education from home, overcoming traditional barriers where family reluctance might have limited their opportunities. Additionally, improved coaching facilities and a shift in societal attitudes toward women in technology have played crucial roles in this change.

The increase in female participation is particularly noticeable in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Bihar, indicating a broad, nationwide shift. Women are showing growing interest in various technical fields, including data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI), alongside traditional engineering and science programs.

Rohit Gupta, COO of College Vidya, comments, “The surge in women pursuing technical education is a transformative moment for India. Beyond the numbers, this shift is about breaking stereotypes and diversifying the tech industry. Women are entering a wide range of fields, from AI to traditional engineering disciplines, which is promising for the future of tech innovation in India.”
