IAS Officer Sonali Devi’s story is a remarkable tale of perseverance, dedication, and resilience. After facing the rigorous challenges of the UPSC exam, Sonali cracked it on her second attempt, securing an impressive 41st rank, becoming an inspiring figure for many aspiring civil servants across the nation.
Sonali’s academic journey began at Carmel Convent School in Delhi, where she was an exceptional student. She scored 91.8% in her class 10 exams and 91.2% in class 12, marking her as a bright and determined scholar early on. She continued her academic success at Delhi Technological University (DTU), where she pursued a B.Tech in Computer Science and achieved a commendable 8.15 CGPA out of 10. After graduating, she joined PayU as a software developer, showcasing her technical skills and thriving in the corporate sector.
However, Sonali’s aspirations soon shifted towards public service. Her career took a new direction when she decided to pursue an MBA at IIM Calcutta after clearing the CAT exam. After her time at IIM, Sonali worked as an analyst but realized her true calling lay in serving the nation. She took a 2.5-year break from her career to focus on UPSC exam preparation, fully committing herself to this challenging pursuit.
In 2021, Sonali’s hard work paid off when she cleared the UPSC exam on her second attempt. Her success led to her first posting as an Assistant Collector in Rewa. She then served as an Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and is currently the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Bichhiya Tehsil in Madhya Pradesh.
