University of Liverpool and Karnataka Forge Partnership to Boost Education, Skills, and Research
The University of Liverpool has solidified its commitment to international collaboration by signing a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Karnataka, India. A delegation from the University, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Tim Jones and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Tariq Ali, traveled to Karnataka last week for the official signing ceremony.
The MoU was signed at the official residence of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, underscoring the importance of this partnership at the highest levels of government. Also present at the ceremony were key ministers, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Minister for Large and Medium Scale Industries MB Patil, and Minister of Higher Education, Dr MC Sudhakar. The presence of these dignitaries highlights the Karnataka government’s commitment to fostering collaboration in education, skills development, and research.
This landmark agreement signifies a shared vision to strengthen cooperation between the University of Liverpool and Karnataka in several key areas. Professor Tariq Ali, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Partnerships at the University of Liverpool, expressed enthusiasm about the potential of this collaboration. “Our visit to Karnataka allowed further exploration of the many opportunities for international collaboration with India, whose government has recently introduced new regulations to enable joint programmes and student mobility,” Professor Ali stated. He emphasized the significance of recent policy changes in India that are paving the way for more robust international partnerships in education and research.
Professor Ali further highlighted the potential for growth, adding, “Our meetings with national and state governments have paved the way for new and expanded activities in Karnataka and the wider country, which we are excited to take forward.” This statement indicates that the University of Liverpool sees this MoU not just as a partnership with Karnataka, but as a gateway to broader engagement with India as a whole.
