At the 19th convocation of Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU), held at Atal Auditorium, Governor and Chancellor Anandiben Patel emphasized the pivotal role of women’s education in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a developed nation by 2047. In her address, Governor Patel highlighted the need for education to extend beyond traditional classrooms and reach even Anganwadis, reflecting the modern era’s demands.
Governor Patel also stressed the importance of engaging youth and children in national development. She encouraged students to establish robust connections with industries through internships and advocated for aligning education with skills and employment opportunities. Furthermore, she urged the university to set ambitious admission targets for its 12 regional centres and promote increased enrolment through its study centres.
Prof. Kameshwar Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of South Bihar Central University and principal guest at the convocation, spoke on the need for the educational system to align with Indian cultural values and life perspectives. He stressed that this alignment would help give a tangible form to an inclusive India. Prof. Singh also emphasized the need for educators to spearhead research initiatives and determine priority study fields in line with regional, national, and global standards.
During the convocation, students from various University schools were awarded 26 gold medals, with 16 of these going to female students. Degrees will also be conferred upon students who completed their exams during the university’s December 2023 and June 2024 sessions. Out of 31,940 enrolled students—19,096 male and 12,844 female—approximately 3,000 students registered online to receive their degrees at this event.
Arti Yadav, a student from the Azamgarh regional centre, was honored with the Chancellor Gold Medal. She was recognized as the top student in both UG and PG programs at several academic institutions, having achieved a first-division BSc. Additionally, seven postgraduate category best performers across various fields received University Gold Medals, presented by the Governor, reflecting the high academic standards and achievements of UPRTOU students.
