As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to reshape the educational landscape, educators face both exciting possibilities and new challenges. In light of this transformation, Jackson College and the Jackson County Intermediate School District are hosting a daylong workshop designed to help educators navigate these changes effectively.
Workshop Overview
This interactive workshop will provide educators with the tools and insights necessary to integrate AI into their classrooms ethically and effectively. With the recent proliferation of AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Magic School, it’s essential to address concerns surrounding academic honesty and the evolving needs of students.
Facilitator
Dr. Troy Hicks will lead the workshop. He is a professor of English and education at Central Michigan University, serving as the Chair of the Department of Teacher and Special Education and Director of the Chippewa River Writing Project. Dr. Hicks brings a wealth of experience in both AI and education, guiding participants through a comprehensive exploration of AI’s role in the classroom.

Target Audience
This workshop is designed for educators teaching grades 4-12. Participants will leave equipped with strategies to enhance learning through AI, ensuring they meet their students’ needs in a rapidly changing educational landscape.

- Cost: $25 (for local educators through the JCISD system); free for Jackson College faculty and staff.
- Materials: Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptops and an open mind for interactive activities.
