Suchiter Sharma, a resident of Salehar village near Bishnah in the Jammu district, successfully cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination on his first attempt, securing an All-India Rank (AIR) of 146. Achieving this feat at just 22 years old, he has become the youngest IRS officer in the country.
Educational Background and Preparation:
- Schooling: Suchiter completed his 12th-grade education at Army Public School, Ratnuchak, Jammu. From a young age, he harbored ambitions of becoming a UPSC officer.
- Graduation: He pursued his graduation at Govt. Gandhi Memorial Science College, Jammu, which required him to travel over 50 km daily. Despite the long commute and rigorous college schedule, Suchiter remained committed to his UPSC coaching classes.
- Lockdown Advantage: During the Covid-19 lockdown, Suchiter utilized the extended time at home to intensify his UPSC preparation. This period of isolation allowed him to focus deeply on his studies, ultimately leading to his success.

Suchiter’s father, Madan Lal Sharma, and mother, Ritu Mangotra, are both teachers, providing a supportive educational environment. His cousin, Prayasi Sharma, an IAS officer, served as a significant source of inspiration. Motivated by his cousin’s success, Suchiter was determined to follow a similar path and has now achieved a remarkable milestone.
